Otto Smik (1922-1944) was a Slovak flying ace who served in the Royal Air Force. Smik resided in this building before his illegal departure from Slovakia in 1940. With nine combat victories, he was the most successful Slovak military pilot during WWII. He perished during an attack on the Dutch city of Zwolle on November 28, 1944. His remains were reburied in Bratislava in 1994.
