The Orthodox Jewish community maintained a range of educational institutions. In 1899, a school building was constructed according to the designs of the Viennese architect Wilhelm Stiassny. An elementary school for boys, and an elementary and a secondary school for girls originally occupied the building. A military hospital was stationed in the building in 1915-1918. Later, an aliyah (emigration to Israel) center operated here in 1945-1948. The building is today used as an office building and a memorial plaque installed in the vestibule now reminds us of its past.
